Outside the wind was howling
Trees banging on the walls
Rain came falling pouring
Echoing down into the halls
The storm surging
Heaving
Blowing upon my door
The chair was soft and warm
Tucked close to the fire
A book propped on my knee
I pushed my glasses higher
I sat nodding
Fading
Sleep came overwhelming
A dream came prodding pulling
Dancing in my mind clearly
Visions of a past life
The love I once held dearly
It drew me, tempting
Calling
The love that is no more
Her golden hair glowing
Resplendent in the sun
Her gaze searched me deeply
Beckoning me along
The face I’ve missed
Craved
Longed to see for so long
I followed as she glided
Pulling me quite far
I was lost in her splendor
A moment with no mar
The world blurred
Faded
Nothing left but her
Soon we were flying higher
Soaring above the world
Clouds came whirring by
But it started to get cold
She slowed abruptly
Wrongly
Haltingly looking down
The world came back to view
A familiar sight indeed
I knew the place quite well
Unwanted as it may be
Then we were descending
Plunging
Crashing to the floor
A house came rising swiftly
And a dread grew in my core
This place that I had shunned
Never to return I had swore
It came reaching
Clawing
Clutching at my soul
We landed in the building
That once had been our home
And when I looked back to her
I was shaken down to my bones
For she was empty
Hollow
Withering before my eyes
Her skin sunk deep, sallow
Her eyes went empty and cold
Her lips cracked and parted
And a shriek pierced me whole
She grabbed me gnawing
Gnashing
Pushing me down hard
I recalled again the last time
I had ever seen her alive
The way she thrashed against me
As I took away her life
Her time had come
Revenge
Comeuppance was hers to sow
I faded into nothing
As she took her ghastly toll
Tears creeped down her face
Even though this, I was owed
Suddenly I awoke cursed
Consumed
Cowering in my shame
To live forevermore
